New manual includes specific criteria and regulations for the construction of beach handball courts
Beach handball court construction guide released
The European Handball Federation's Beach Handball Commission has released a detailed guide outlining the specific criteria and regulations for the construction of beach handball courts.
"It is the first manual that goes into details such as the required depth of the sand as well as the quality of the sand, if the game is played not on the beach but on artificial sand courts," said Peter Fröschl, senior manager responsible for beach handball.
It furthermore states the regulations regarding the court's location, markings, goals and the lighting requirements.
The guide was commissioned by the EHF Beach Handball Commission (BC) and put together by its member responsible for development and promotion, George Bebetsos.
"These instructions become even more important as more and more future tournaments will be played in cities and on artificial sand courts," said Fröschl.
"If you don't adhere to a specific depth and quality of the sand, it might very well turn into concrete when it rains."
