Serbians spreading the sport to kids before EHF EURO 2012
Mini handball promo at RK Zaječar
Last weekend, 35 days before the start of the Women’s EHF EURO 2012 in four Serbian cities, reigning national champion RK Zaječar organised a promotional event for the tournament in their “Kraljevica“ sports hall.
More than 200 kids from five primary schools were playing a mini handball tournament, met famous handball stars such as Mangue, Fernandez, Pislaru and others from the top Serbian club and brought home some photos and memories with the official eagle mascot for the Women’s EHF EURO 2012.
“The main goal of this event was to attract kids to handball. We will try to organise this kind of event on a monthly basis in order to get massive response among younger population.
“Of course, the perfect chance to do that is the year in which we will have the EHF EURO on home soil“ said assistant coach in the Serbian national team, Živojin Maksić.
A lot of attention was given to the popular players of RK Zaječar who were involved in the event. One of them was one of the best players in the World from Spain, Marta Mangue:
“I really enjoy to watch children, small handball players. When I see some of the skills from talented kids, that makes me happy.
“These kind of events are very important for the future of our sport, not just here in Serbia, but everywhere,“ said Marta, who was the second most popular person in „Kraljevica“ that afternoon after official mascot of the Women’s EHF EURO 2012.
When asked about the new look of the Serbian eagle, Mangue said “She looks good. I like her very much.
“I expect a very good tournament in Serbia. The Men’s EHF EURO 2012 was already here this year and everything was ok, a lot of people were enthusiastic and we saw the full halls.
Hopefully, Spain will reach the new semi-finals. That would be the perfect end of the year for me“ said Mangue, who is in her second season with HC Zaječar.
The famous Spanish handball star had a lot of fun during the event alongside the team-mates Begona Fernandez and Jessica Alonso (Spain), Maja Zebić and Aneta Peraica (Croatia), Sanja Rajović (Serbia) and Teresa Pislaru (Romania), all of whom will participate at the big EHF EURO event at the end of 2012.
