New era in Polish handball

After having been left out of the Poland's men's national team for more than three years, Michał Kubisztal will stage his international handball comeback when Poland face the Netherlands and Ukraine in the qualification for the EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark.

Kubisztal was among the players that newly appointed head coach Michael Biegler selected for the two qualification matches on 31 October and 4 November.

"I'm very proud and happy with being nominated for the national team. I know coach Biegler only by sight. I have met him when I was playing in the (German) Bundesliga (for Füchse Berlin). I hope that talking to him will explain a lot, also my role in the team," Kubisztal was quoted on his club's, Orlen Wisła Plock, official website.

Biegler's squad also includes four debutants: Michal Bartczak, Przemysław Krajewski, Antoni Łangowski and Marek Szapera. They are hoped to be the future of the Polish men's national team.

"I want to show young players my philosophy and the way I work. I'm looking forward to what the team's reaction will be like,” Biegler was quoted on the Polish Handball Federation's website.

On the other hand, Karol Bielecki who was part of the qualification for the London 2012 Olympic Games, has not been selected.

Also absent is Grzegorz Tkaczyk, arguably currently one of the best handball players in Poland. He has announced the end of his career in the Polish national team, also stating that a comeback is unlikely to happen.

Poland are seeded in Group 5 in the EHF EURO 2014 Qualification together with the Netherlands, Ukraine and Sweden.
