Clearance by Kadetten, easy walk for Kiel

Two matches of the VELUX EHF Champios League which could not have been more different: While defending champions THW Kiel beat Constanta by 21 goals, Schaffhausen sealed the deal of their first victory with a final strike to 28:27 five seconds before the end.

Group B:

THW Kiel (GER) vs. HCM Constanta (ROU) 35:14 (16:7)

Three matches and the goal difference is already +35: Defending champions THW Kiel fly above the rest of their group already. After winning at Madrid and against Sävehof the Germans took an absolutely dominant win against the Romanian champions.

Constanta on the other hand still wait for their first point after three defeats.

The Romanians were chanceless from the very first second. It took them eleven minutes to score their first goals at 1:5 and after 28 minutes the result was already double-figured at 15:5 in the return of Milutin Dragičević (Constanta) to his former club.

As Constanta resigned after the break, Kiel extended the gap easily minute by minute to a final margin of 21 goals. Top scorers were Momir Ilić and Daniel Narcisse, who scored five times each for THW, and Branislav Angelovski with four goals for the Romanians.

Constanta now hope for their next encounter against Celje (still currently zero points), as THW have a much higher hurdle to climb at Veszprém.

Group D:

Kadetten Schaffhausen (SUI) vs. RK Croatia Osiguranje Zagreb (CRO) 28:27 (16:15)

Last Saturday they were the defeated by the final goal three seconds before the end, on Thursday Kadetten Schaffhausen stroke back in the same way: Scoring the 28:27 five seconds before the end, Christian Dissinger was the hero for the Swiss champion in a thrilling match. After two defeats this victory was a clearance for Kadetten, as Zagreb lost their first match in this VELUX EHF Champions League season despite nine goals of Marino Marić and seven of Zlatko Horvat.

Besides Dissinger, goalkeeper Arūnas Vaškevičius was the match winner for Schaffhausen, saving a big number of shots in the crucial stage of the match.

Like their last match at Minsk, Zagreb were part of a roller coaster again: Kadetten led 14:7 before the Croatian club equalised by 16:16, then the Swiss champions were in control again at 22:17, however Zagreb reduced to 22:21.

The final four minutes turned into a real thriller: First Luka Stepančić levelled at 26:26 – the third Zagreb equaliser in the whole match after the 2:2 and 16:16. Then Schaffhausen scored the 27:26, Horvat equalised again – before top scorer Dissinger (six goals) brought all the joy to his team and the fans.
