High demand for Women's EHF EURO 2012

The sale of tickets for the Women's EHF European Championship 2012 in Serbia (December 4 to December 16) is barely a week old and if the early stage is anything to go by, the 16-nation tournament will produce packed arenas like in the Men’s EHF EURO 2012 held at the same four venues in January 2012.

“We have already sold more than 15,000 sets of tickets and the biggest demand is for matches in Group B in Nis,” the Serbian Handball Federation's (RSS) ticketing manager, Biljana Djokic, told reporters on Monday.

“Many Danish and French supporters have booked their tickets alongside droves of Macedonian fans, who are expected to have the biggest travelling contingent in Nis,” she added.

Sweden are the fourth team in Group B and it is more than likely that their fans will also flock to the southern Serbian city for what should be a highly entertaining Preliminary Round contest.

Hosts Serbia will play all their games in Belgrade’s imposing Kombank Arena, where an excess of 20,000 fans turned up for the Men’s EHF EURO 2012 Main and Medal Rounds.

Their Preliminary Round Group A rivals are Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Norway – the Olympic, World and European champions whose electrifying squad and high-tempo should also be a major crowd-puller.

Spain, Germany, Croatia and Hungary in Group C are based in Novi Sad’s SPENS Sports Centre, while Group D teams Russia, Montenegro, Romania and Iceland will play each other in Vrsac’s Millennium Hall.
