Long break for Olympic gold medallist

It will be quite a while before Amanda Kurtovic, who was part of Norway´s gold winning team at this summer´s London Olympics, will get her official debut for her new club Viborg HK.

The 21 year old right winger and right back sustained a shoulder injury in a test match against Aalborg DH two weeks ago, and now and MR scan has disclosed a torn ligament in the shoulder which is likely to need surgery, and which forces Kurtovic to at least a four months break.

Amanda Kurtovic joined the Danish top team this summer from Norwegian Byåsen, and the injury means that she will be sidelined not only for the EHF Champions League qualification tournament in September, but also for the Goup Phase, should Viborg qualify for that – and it also means that she is going to miss representing her country at EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia in December.

“This is really distressing news. First and foremost for Amanda who came to Viborg with a burning desire to make her mark, and who had all chances to do so, so this is really sad for her”, said Viborg HK´s sports director Susanne Munk Wilbek, as the seriousness of Kurtovic´s injury became known.

“Furthermore, it is a severe blow to the team. Two weeks ago we lost Grit Jurack, and now we will have to make do without Amanda at least for the entire autumn season. 

“All we can do, however, is to work with the players who are available, and of course hope that Amanda gets through her injury as well and as fast as possible,” Susanne Munk Wilbek added.
