Prieto goes to Switzerland

Carlos Prieto is the twelfth out of the 14 players, who had a contract with bankrupt AG København, to find himself a new club.

The 32 year old Spanish line player is even going to play in the VELUX EHF Champions League, just as he would have if AG had not gone bankrupt.

Carlos Prieto joins the Swiss champion Kadetten Schaffhausen who will once again participate in the Group Phase of the VELUX EHF Champions League.

On April 20 this year, AG København published a contract with Prieto who was coming from the German Bundesliga club, Bergischer HC.

As AG went bankrupt on July 31, the former Spanish international suddenly found himself in Copenhagen without a job. This situation did not last long, though. Prieto, who has won the EHF Champions League three times in his career – with FC Barcelona and Ciudad Real – has been training with Kadetten for some time and now this has resulted in a contract with the Swiss top team, valid from 1 September onwards.

In the Group Phase of the upcoming VELUX EHF Champions League season, Kadetten, who reached the round of the Last 16 last season, are in Group D and so Prieto is going to meet one of his former clubs, FC Barcelona Intersport.

Kadetten´s other opponents in this group are Croatian champions HC Croatia Osiguranje Zagreb, Füchse Berlin from Germany, Pick Szeged from Hungary and the winner of the Qualification Knock-Out Match between Turkish Besiktas JK and HC Dinamo Minsk from Belarus.

The Norwegian goalkeeper Steinar Ege and the Icelandic playmaker Snorri Gudjonsson are now the only players from the AG squad who have not found new employers.
