Defending VELUX EHF Champions League champions break another record in their domestic league.
Goal number 20,000 for FC Barcelona Intersport
FC Barcelona Intersport – defending champions of the VELUX EHF Champions League – have broken another historic record in the Spanish Asobal league four days before their decisive second quarter final against AG Kobenhavn (first leg 23:29).
In the league match against Ciudad Encantada on Tuesday, which ended with a 32:23 victory, Jesper Noddesbo scored to make it 5:4 in the ninth minute, which was goal number 20,000 in the history of FC Barcelona since the Asobal league started on 22 September 1990. Barca’s first ever goal in the Asobal was scored by former World Handball Player of the Year, Veselin Vujovic (World and Olympics champion with Yugoslavia), in the match against Galicia Teucro, finally won 21:20 by Barcelona.
"I am proud that I scored this historic goal," Noddesbo is quoted on the FC Barcelona Intersport website, just days before the Danish pivot had scored goal number 10,000 of the current Asobal season.
Besides BM Granollers and BM Valladolid, FC Barcelona Interpsort are the only team who have taken part in all 22 Asobal seasons to date. In the previous 21 seasons Barca became record champions with 10 titles. The balance of the Catalans since September 1990 is brilliant – and they hold all records like number of matches, number of victories, number of goals scored, biggest winning margin and best ever scorer in the Asobal history.
In 652 games Barca reached 561 victories, tied 23 times and lost only 68 matches, the club scored 20,027 goals and conceded 15,796 up to now. By beating Valencia in the 1999/2000 season 46:18 they still hold the record for the biggest winning margin, and Juanin Garcia is the best ever scorer in Asobal history.
In the current season FC Barcelona Intersport have won all their 26 Asobal games.
