Final chance for men's European teams to qualify for London 2012

Six participants of the Men’s Olympic Handball Tournament in London (28 July – 12 August) are already known after the 2011 World Championship and the continental qualification tournaments.

The six missing teams will be decided in three Olympic Qualification Tournaments, played from 6 to 8 April (Easter weekend) in Europe.

Spain, Sweden and Croatia are the hosts of those tournaments – and the national handball federations have chosen Alicante (Spain), Gothenburg (Sweden) and Varazdin (Croatia) as the venues for those Olympic Qualification Tournaments.

Tournament 1 (in Spain):

Spain will face Poland, Serbia and Algeria in Alicante.

Friday 6 April:

17:30: Poland vs. Algeria

20:15: Spain vs. Serbia

Saturday 7 April:

17:30: Serbia vs. Poland

20:15: Algeria vs. Spain

Sunday 8 April:

17:30: Serbia vs. Algeria

20:15: Spain vs. Poland

Tournament 2 (in Sweden):

Sweden will face Hungary, Brazil and FYR Macedonia in Gothenburg.

Friday 6 April:

14:45: Hungary vs. FYR Macedonia

17:00: Sweden vs. Brazil

Saturday 7 April:

13:45: Brazil vs. Hungary

16:00: FYR Macedonia vs. Sweden

Sunday 8 April:

14:45: Brazil vs. FYR Macedonia

17:00: Sweden vs. Hungary

Tournament 3 (in Croatia):

Croatia will face Iceland, Japan and Chile in Varazdin.

Friday 6 April:

18:00: Croatia vs. Japan

20:15: Iceland vs. Chile

Saturday 7 April:

16:00: Chile vs. Croatia

18:15: Japan vs. Iceland

Sunday 8 April:

15:30: Japan vs. Chile

18:00: Croatia vs. Iceland

The two best ranked teams from each of those tournaments will book their tickets to the 2012 Olympic Games. The draw for the Preliminary Rounds will take place in London at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on Wednesday, 30 May. Further information related to the draw will follow in due time.
