FC Midtjylland, Itxako and Larvik all have the chance to advance to the semi-finals of the EHF Women’s Champions League.
EHF Women’s Champions League - Group 1 Qualification Mathematics
The winners and second-placed teams of Group 1 and Group 2 in the EHF Women’s Champions League Main Round qualify through to the semi-finals and three of the semi-final participants are already known; Győri Audi ETO and Budućnost are Group 1 and Group 2 winners respectively, whilst CS Oltchim Rm. Vâlcea have confirmed second position in Group 2.
So, one of the semi-final pairings for the EHF Women’s Champions League 2011/12 is already finalised; Hungary’s Győri Audi ETO will meet Romanian side Oltchim in a hot clash which will be a rematch of the semi-final from 2009/10, when the Romanians advanced to the final. This leaves Montenegrin side Budućnost awaiting their opponents who will be known following the games on Saturday (10 March).
ehfCL.com brings you all possible scenarios for the fourth semi-final participant coming from Group 1:
Larvik advance to the semi-final if they:
- Defeat Győr Audi ETO AND Itxako either draws with, or defeats FC Midtjylland.
Itxako advance if they:
- Defeat FC Midtjylland AND Larvik draw or lose against Győri Audi ETO.
FC Midtjylland advance if they:
- Defeat Itxako OR draw AND Győri Audi ETO draw or win against Larvik.
If teams are equal on points, the next qualification criteria are as per Regulation 4.4 in the EHF Women's Champions League 2011/12 Regulations 'Group Matches and Main Round' which can be found HERE.
Away goals from direct encounters do not count at the Main Round stage e.g. if Larvik draw and Itxako win, Itxako qualify with the overall goal difference from all six matches.
ehfTV.com will bring you both decisive Group 1 clashes ‘live’ this coming Saturday.
