Serbian rock duo with a chartbuster for the big continental event in Serbia.
EHF EURO 2012 anthem published!
The official song of the upcoming EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia has all the potentials of a chartbuster, having been produced by a stellar duo that joined forces to give the European Championship a fitting anthem.
Ognjen Radivojevic, a vastly talented musician who started playing the piano when he was five years old, will sing "Never Give Up" as 16 teams take centre stage in four Serbian cities from January 15th to 29th.
The lyrics were produced by 49-year old composer Nikola Cuturilo, who made his name as a lead guitarist for famous Serbian band Riblja Corba (Fish Soup), which dominated the former Yugoslavia’s rock scene in the 1980s.
Radivojevic rose to prominence while working with world-famous Bosnian Serb composer Goran Bregovic from 1992 to 2004, when he also performed alongside the likes of Iggy Pop, Ofra Haza and Cesaria Evora.
As a conductor, singer, percussionist and orchestrator for Bregovic, the versatile Radivojevic performed in over 600 concerts worldwide while he hit the top of the Serbian charts in 2005 as the composer of Hajde Cico (Come On Lass), a song which went on to win a haul of domestic and international awards.
His first solo album in 2006 was the fifth most sold compact disk by the PGP-RTS and Dream House enterprises that co-produced it, having
released his second in 2010 when Dream House teamed up with City Records.
Speaking to the EHF about the project of producing the official EURO 2012 anthem, Radivojevic revealed he had joined forces with Cuturilo before in composing a song for a popular Serbian sitcom.
"The official anthem for EHF EURO 2012 was a project which lasted several months because we wanted to come up with a powerful song that would capture the audience and not just a lullaby," Radivojevic said.
"A plethora of nations taking part in the tournament will listen to the song throughout the event and given that it represents Serbia, I felt a great deal of responsibility to get it right in producing and singing it," he added.
"It’s an energetic and manly song and the reactions have so far been excellent. I sincerely hope fans in the terraces sing it from start to finish."
Cuturilo’s first notable success was joining the popular Serbian band Elektricni Orgazam (Electric Orgasm) on tour in 1984, before he broke into Riblja Corba in September that year. He stayed with the band until 1989, having appeared in four of their albums.
Cuturilo released his first solo album in 1988, as its solitary author having played the guitar while he also sang the lyrics.
In 1991 Cuturilo took part in the Retrospective Evening of the Belgrade Spring Festival, before moving to London where he teamed up with Paul Rodgers and Micky Moody to perform mostly in clubs.
In 1998 he recorded his fourth studio album in London with David Duncan (bass guitar) and Neil Findlay (drums). In 2006 Cuturilo released his fifth solo album released by PGP-RTS.
