Denmark: Toft Hansen replaces Knudsen

The Danish team has been hit hard by injuries to two line players: After Jesper Nøddesbo had to withdraw from the EHF EURO in Serbia, now Michael V. Knudsen is also out of the tournament.

Knudsen suffered ruptured muscle fibre in the win against Slovenia at the final test tournament in Denmark. After some special treatment and medical examinations the Danish Federation announced that it is not currently known when Knudsen will be able to play again, and therefore, he’s had to pull out of the EHF EURO.

It was the second lot of bad news for national team coach Ulrik Wilbek, after yet another line player, Jesper Nøddesbo (FC Barcelona), had to be replaced, due to a back injury.

Nøddesbo said on the website of the Danish Handball Federation: "I’m obviously very annoyed that I have to sit-out the tournament, but I can’t risk the injury becoming worse."

Due to these latest injuries, Wilbek summoned Henrik Toft Hansen for the EHF EURO. The 25-year-old line player of AG Kobenhavn will play in Serbia together with his older brother Rene. Both were part of the successful Danish team that won the test tournament on home ground last weekend with a draw against Slovenia and victories over Poland and Iceland.
