Unhappy after Denmark test

The Totalkredit Cup in Denmark was the last test for Slovenia before traveling to EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia. Coach Boris Denič was not satisfied after his team held victories in their hands but eventually lost twice and also drew against Denmark.

Slovenia tied with the finalist of the last World Championship, Denmark (29:29), but lost against Iceland (26:29) and Poland (24:25). The results are not too bad says Boris Denič, but he laments how his team lost:

"Especially against Poland, when we were leading by six goals, the team should have played differently. They worked hard in the first half but got completely lost in the second. Iceland was better than us and won deservedly. As for Denmark, I can be content with the performance but not with the final result."

In one week EHF EURO 2012 starts, and Slovenia will play in Group D against Croatia, Iceland and Norway. What can the young Slovenian team, where the youngest player is 19 years old, do in coming days?

"Not much really. Our team is young and needs time. Technical mistakes and better realization only come with many games played. In one week we can only eliminate a small percentage of the mistakes," explains Denič. He will be taking the national team to the European Championship for the first time as head coach, although he has much experience as assistant coach.

In the last seven days before the 10th European Championship, Denič and his team will practice in Zreče, preparing tactics for the EHF EURO, before leaving Slovenia for Serbia on Saturday 14th January.
