Doubts for FYR Macedonia

FYR Macedonia faces a big problem in defence after one of the key players, Mitko Stoilov, has undergone meniscus surgery and will miss the EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia.

He misses all the preparation and will be back after the European Championship, but only for his club Metalurg in VELUX EHF Champions League games. Coach Zvonko Shundovski has one more "headache", the possible absence of pivot Vanco Dimovski.

Experienced player Dimovski has a problem with a right ankle tendon and needs a minimum of 10 days rest. He will miss the test game versus Serbia in Smederevo on January 8th. Several days later Dimovski will face medical examinations, and then it will be known if he can endure all the pressure and effort during the Preliminary phase in Nis.

"Without Stoilov we have to be more aggressive in defence. He was our key player, but we need to find some solutions", said Shundovski.

Stoilov has had a problem with his meniscus for several months, and has had surgery after his club advised him to do this in order that he is ready for the next challenges in the VELUX EHF Champions League.

If Dimovski also misses the continental event, then Shundovski will have to rely on line players Stojance Stoilov and Nikola Markoski.

FYR Macedonia have played only one test game, defeating Montenegro 40:33 after 3x 25 minutes playing time.

FYR Macedonia practices in Skopje and Shundovski so far count on 19 players.

The definitive squad will be known after the test game against Serbia.

Left backs: Velko Markoski (Metalurg), Filip Lazarov (Vardar), Milorad Kukoski (Vardar), Ace Jonoski (Metalurg)

Right backs: Kiril Lazarov (Atletico Madrid, ESP), Vlatko Mitkov (HSG Barnbach/Koflach, AUT)
