International Media recognise great year for handball

THW Kiel's Thierry Omeyer alongside Novak Djokovic, Lionel Messi, Usain Bolt and Sebastian Vettel. It sounds like a dream sporting line-up, but Omeyer has been voted alongside these legends as one of the AIPS Athletes of the Year (Male) for 2011.

The AIPS' (International Sports Press Association) members voted on who performed best in 2011 and Omeyer finished 11th in the list, voted for by 379 AIPS member journalists drawn from 82 countries.  This was the first time a handball player has been voted in to the top 12.

But that is not all the good news for handball as FC Barcelona Intersport finished as the fourth best sports team in the world, with their football club finishing top.
