Sławomir Szmal missing Euro?

The Polish national team goalkeeper, who plays for Polish club Vive Targi Kielce, in all probability will not be part of the EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia. Last Tuesday, the outstanding goalkeeper underwent knee surgery.

Szmal has made a big contribution to all the successes of the Poles in recent years (silver and bronze medal in World Championships), but hasn't played since 4th December 2011.

"The first forecast after the operation is that the rehabilitation will take 4 weeks. After this period everything should be fine, and the knee should be back to full fitness,"  says Szmal.

It's unlikely that he will travel with the national team for the tournament in Serbia, though.

33-year-old Szmal is one of the main pillars of the Polish national team, but if he fails to recover in time, Adam Malcher (Zaglebie Lubin), Piotr Wyszomirski (Azoty Pulawy), and Marcin Wichary (Wisla Plock) will hope for the opportunity to perform in Serbia.
