Ruesga: “Injury is Behind Me”

Pick Szeged were beaten in their first two VELUX EHF Champions League matches this season, and need to find some points quickly if they are to maintain their hopes of reaching the last 16.

But will Real Ademar Leon’s Carlos Ruesga be back to the sort of impressive form which he displayed in Portland San Antonio some years ago, and help his side to victory?

ehfCL.com: Your game against Pick Szeged will be a tough one. Are Real Ademar prepared?

Carlos Ruesga: Of course! We lost to Asobal in a difficult match against Caja Aragon, but it was our first defeat in Spain this season. We have some good form and are playing very well, so we are ready.

ehfCL.com: What are your thoughts ahead of the match?

Carlos Ruega: Every game in the VELUX EHF Champions League is difficult but this is one of the hardest for us because they lost their first games and need a victory. But it is a very important game for us too, and an away win will give us more confidence for the future.

ehfCL.com: What is your opinion about Pick Szeged?

Carlos Ruesga: They are a very good team. They are very strong at home and have a great support, so we will have to give it everything we have if we want to take the points.

ehfCL.com: You are in one of the more difficult groups, aren’t you?

Carlos Ruesga: We have to fight with three great clubs as Kiel, Montpellier and Kobenhavn are in this group with us. It is so difficult for us, but we have to be very strong in Leon and try to get any points we can from our away matches. We got a decisive victory against Partizan and we hope to take some more surprise away wins.

ehfCL.com: How do you feel? Are you really recovered of your last injury?

Carlos Ruesga: Sure! I have completely forgotten about it. I feel fine, but I must continue improving to get back to my best and help the team, but last season’s injury is behind me.

ehfCL.com: Portland´s Ruesga will be back?

Carlos Ruesga: I am working for it. I had some great years in Pamplona and I hope to recover the confidence I had in Portland San Antonio. It was an unforgettable stage of my professional career.
