Court of Handball decision fines the Greek club’s exiting of the Challenge Cup.
Panetolikos AS (GRE) withdraws from European Cup participation
The EHF Court of Handball has made a decision in the case concerning the Greek club Panetolikos AS. The club is withdrawing from their European Cup participation.
The Greek club should have played the first round of the competition on the upcoming weekend, 30 September to 2 October 2011.
This round is played in two tournaments, and Panetolikos were drawn into the one taking place in Oliveira do Bairro/Portugal together with RK Zelina (CRO), Alavarium (POR) and Olympia HC (ENG).
The 2011/12 EHF Women’s Challenge Cup Round 2 tournament, Group B, will now be played with the three remaining teams only. The results of the tournament matches of which should have been played by Panetolikos AC, shall be fixed 0:10 and 0:2 points in favour of Panetolikos AC’s opponents.
The club Panetolikos AS is fined 10,000€ for withdrawing from the European Cup and is excluded from participating in any handball club competition organised or authorised by the EHF for the 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons.
The punishment applied is due to Article C.2 of the EHF List of Penalties and Article 2.7/2.7.1 of the EHF European Cup Regulations.
The club has the right to appeal to the Court of Appeal within seven days.
