Men’s EHF EURO 2012 site visit

An EHF delegation visited Serbia between 12-14 September 2011 for a follow-up Men’s EHF EURO 2012 venue inspection where the Serbian Handball Federation – the tournament organisers – updated on the infrastructure improvement progression.

The EHF delegation visited four Preliminary Round venues; Nis, Novi Sad, and Belgrade (Pionir Arena) as well as the team hotel in Vrsac and returned to Vienna with happy that work is well underway with the majority of outstanding jobs and infrastructure improvements implemented.

The Cair Sports Hall in Nis has been completely reconstructed in order to meet the standards of an EHF EURO Event Preliminary Round venue and will provide a positive and great experience for the fans and players of Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic and FYR Macedonia.

The EHF delegation also inspected the SPC Vojvodina in Novi Sad where a general refurbishment of the arena interior is ongoing. The work is currently in full swing and is planned to be finished by the beginning of November in good time before the teams from France, Hungary, Spain and Russia and their fans arrive.

In Belgrade’s Pionir Arena parts of the reconstruction, such as the areas around the sports hall, media working areas and VIP zone have been concluded. Further measures inside the arena are now being implemented before the sporting action commences at the venue from the national teams of Poland, Denmark, Serbia and Slovakia.

All five venues are making relevant adaptations in accordance with the EHF EURO set-up manual, such as venue big screens and TV studios.

These adaptations are in order to meet the requirements of the EHF EURO standards prior to the tournament which throws off on 15 January 2012.
