Following Hungary and Croatia, the next five teams celebrated their qualification to the Men’s EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia on Wednesday 8 June: Germany, Denmark, Russia, Norway and Sweden.
Group 1
In Group 1, Estonia missed the great sensation and a first ever qualification for a EHF European Championship.
They lost 23:31 on home ground against FYR Macedonia and remain on four points, FYR Macedonia (5 points) on Sunday now need a victory in the Balkan duel to qualify securely for Serbia.
If Estonia lose in Hungary in Round 6, FYR Macedonia are through. Hungary notched up their fifth straight victory (22:19 in Bosnia).
Group 2
Croatia, who have already qualified for Serbia, beat Romania 30:25 in Group 2, Spain can qualify on Thursday if they win in Lithiuania.
Group 3
In Group 3, Poland are nearly through to the EHF EURO after winning 32:26 in Ukraine. Surprisingly Portugal won on home ground 31:29 against Slovenia, so the Group is still open: Poland have seven points, Slovenia six and Portugal five.
All three teams can book their ticket to Serbia, the final matches Poland versus Portugal and Slovenia versus Ukraine will be decisive.
Group 4
In Group 4, Sweden did not have any problems taking their fourth victory by winning 39:28 in Montenegro. This Group can already be decided on Thursday, if the Slovaks at least take one point from Israel.
Group 5
In Group 5, Germany qualified thanks to a 28:20 victory in Austria, and Iceland won 29:25 against Latvia. The decision as to who will be the second team to go to Serbia will be taken in the match Iceland versus Austria on Sunday. The Austrians (7 points) need a draw, and Iceland (6 points) need to win.
Group 6
In Group 6, Norway made their way to Serbia without any problems. They won with a 15 goal margin (36:21) against the Netherlands.
The biggest surprise was the 26:24 Greek victory over Czech Republic. The Czechs missed the chance for an early qualification but need at least a draw on home ground against Netherlands. Depending on the result Norway versus Greece, the Czechs could even afford to lose.
Group 7
In Group 7 everything is decided: Denmark (33:29 in Belarus) and Russia (33:29 in Switzerland) booked their tickets to Serbia with their fourth victory each in their fifth matches. Both will fight for the group victory in home matches.
