Women’s 17 European Championship 2011 Draw

The 10th Women’s 17 European Championship will be played between 23 June and 03 July 2011 in the Czech Republic. Playing venues will be Brno with the sport hall Nová Hala Vodova and Zlín with Sportovní Hala Euronics.

Over the weekend 25-27 March 2011 the qualification matches for the tournament were played at eight locations across Europe. 31 teams competed for 15 remaining spots to join the already qualified host nation Czech Republic in the final tournament.

The draw for the final tournament will be carried out on Friday, 8 April 2011 at 18:00 hrs in the EHF headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

Pots and Seedings

The eight group winners from the qualification were put into the Pots 1 and 2, seeded according to the ranking of the 2009 W17 European Championships in Serbia.

The eight teams ranked second in the qualification were put into the Pots 3 and 4, also according to the ranking of the 2009 W17 European Championships in Serbia.

Pot 1: Denmark, Russia, Norway, France
Pot 2: Hungary, Romania, Sweden, Spain
Pot 3: Czech Republic, Netherlands, Germany, Croatia
Pot 4: Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Portugal

Draw procedure

The 16 qualified teams will be drawn into four groups with four teams each. The Czech Republic as hosting nation will have the right to choose the group in which they would like to participate.

  • In step one, the teams of Pot 4 are drawn to row 4.
  • In step two, the teams of Pot 2 are drawn to row 2.
  • In step three, the teams of Pot 1 are drawn to row 1.
  • In step four, the Czech Republic as organisers have the right to choose their group.
  • In step five, the teams of Pot 3 are drawn to row 3.
