In their Main Round opener, Győr won at Dinamo Volgograd with a two goal margin. Left wing Orsolya Vérten was top scorer of the Hungarians, scoring six times. She talked to ehfCL.com about the long break, the condition of the team and the upcoming match against German champions Leipzig.

ehfCL.com: Considering the two and a half months break, how would you rate your team’s performance against Dinamo?

Orsolya Vérten: Our game play was full of mistakes. On Tuesday we will have a meeting where we analyse our game together with our coach. For sure we lost several balls and made many technical mistakes. So it is obvious that we did not show a good performance at all. Thank God that we won the game after all!

We have already made a different impression, for instance when we played in Ljubljana. And we were much better when at the finishing games of the Group Matches in November. So without a doubt, we are talking about a long break.

ehfCL.com: According to Dinamo, Győr is not any better than their team, Győr only won the last match because the Russian players made even more mistakes. Do you agree?

Orsolya Vérten: I believe that the better team always wins. Having said that, it does not really matter what they declare. That day we were the better team, so we won. But I believe that we will also be the better team in the return match on home court.

ehfCL.com: You will face HC Leipzig on Sunday. What are your expectations for this match?

Orsolya Vérten: In my opinion it is not too conceited to say that we will beat them without much trouble. Then again I believe that we can defeat any team in the world on our home court.

I have memories from last season’s matches against Leipzig. Being a typical German team, we can expect them to constantly fight until the end of the match. So from that point of view it will not be a too easy game.

ehfCL.com: Some of your team mates were injured. What are their conditions right now?

Orsolya Vérten: Three players suffer from quite painful injuries. Anikó Kovacsics sprained her ankle, Ágnes Hornyák’s toe is broken, and Katalin Pálinger was hit on her rib.

Today we will have a Hungarian Cup match, and none of them will be able to participate. They will try to start training tomorrow again, so they might recover and be back in Sunday’s match.
