Knezović: “Excellent season ahead“

The 30 year old goalkeeper made 15 saves against Viborg, enabling her team to win at the end 34:25. Knezović already has two Cup Winner’s Cup trophies with Budućnost (2006 and 2010), and now she’s going for the CL trophy.

ehfCL.com: After a bad start in the preparation tournaments, how has Budućnost T-Mobile achieved two such important victories in first two rounds of CL?

Sanela Knezović: We’ve worked hard from the beginning of the season and introduced many changes in our work, and these results reflect those changes. We didn’t start well in the preparation tournaments, but the start of the new CL season was something that we eagerly awaited. The level of our play is constantly rising, and I’m very happy about that.

ehfCL.com: In the last round your team defeated Viborg in their hall. You were one of the best players with 15 saves (38%). How do you feel after this match?

Sanela Knezović: This was a really great victory and it was a wonderful feeling to be on-court after we’d defeated the CL champions in their hall. I was simply overwhelmed by emotion.

ehfCL.com: What was the key for this great achievement?

Sanela Knezović: Most important was that we believed that we could beat Viborg. When Viborg had bad episodes in their play we just kept going, took advantage, and increased the margin.

ehfCL.com: It seems like Budućnost is capable of doing great things this season, especially with Bojana Popović in your squad?

Sanela Knezović: When Bojana came to us, our play changed, but the most important thing is that the players feel better now, and our play continues to improve, day by day.

ehfCL.com: How do you feel now? What are your expectations and wishes for this season?

Sanela Knezović: I feel great, especially after this important victory. I’m ready and motivated, as are all of us. My only wish is to avoid injuries, and I’m convinced that an excellent season lies ahead of us.
