Popovic with clear victory at her former club, first points for Györ and Dinamo – the Sunday’s summary of Round 2 of WCL.
Podgorica storm Viborg fortress
Group A:
Dinamo Volgograd – IK Sävehof 37:26 (23:12)
The Russian Champion showed their strength on home ground after losing in Podgorica in Round 1. It took only 30 minutes until the game against the Swedish qualificant was decided. The guests reduced the eleven goals distance after 30 minutes to nine in the end, but didn’t have a glimpse of a chance
Viborg HK – Buducnost Podgorica 25:34 (16:18)
Happy end for Bojana Popovic in Viborg: By beating the reigning CL champion on their ground Buducnost showed their abilities to come really far in this CL season. But not Popovic decided the one-sided game despite her five goals, it was left handed player Katharina Bulatovic who scored twelve times for Podgorica and paved the way to this clear victory in the lion’s den. VHK top scorers were Mikkelsen (8) and Jurack (7) Especially the second half was a painful experience for the reigning champion. After the 3:1 Viborg lost the control of the match, as Buducnost improved thanks to strong goalkeeper performances and took the lead in minute 11. At the break a victory was still possible for the host, but then the VHK disaster started, as the Danes missed too many chances and Buducnost scored nearly with every shot and took an absolutely well-deserved victory and kept the lead in this group as the only spotless team.
Group C:
Oltchim Valcea – Toulon Saint Cyr 28:19 (15:9)
Oltchim Valcea is back on track after losing their opener in Randers. The Romanians didn’t have any problems in beating the French debutant clearly. Elisei, Özel and Neagu showed a brilliant performance, especially after the break, as Valcea extended the gap minute by minute, frenetically cheered by a great audience. Top scorers were Elisei (7), Stanca and Neagu (each 5, all Valcea) and Mwasesea (5 for Toulon).
Group D:
Györi Audi ETO – Podravka Vegeta Koprivnica 27:25 (18:15)
Hard work to get their first points after the opening defeat in Zvenigorod: Despite being in lead constantly, Györ couldn’t decide the match early and had to shiver until the last minute, before the victory was secured. Gros (8) and Verten (7) were the top scorers for the Hungarians which had the better start. But Koprivnica fought hard again (like in the opening defeat against Krim) and equalized at the score of 14:14. Györ seemed to be on the winner’s way in the middle of the second half and the intermediate score of 22:16 – but it only took some minutes, before the Croats had caught up again (23:22). The final stage was full of tension and the last goal had to decide the game, which had been equal until the 26:25. Top scorer for the still pointless team from Koprivnica were Milanovic and Nikcevic with each four goals.
