EHF FINAL4 memorabilia auction a big success

The EHF FINAL4 2010 was one of the highlights of the 2009/2010 season with 40,000 people witnessing the very first new-look final stage of the EHF Men’s Champions League in the LAXNESS arena, Cologne.

Handball fans had the chance to own their own little bit of the EHF FINAL4 event thanks to an auction on the eBay website, where a whole host of EHF FINAL4 memorabilia was available.

Between 5 and 15 July 2010 over 50 exclusive items were on offer. Among the items were signed playing shirts from each of the four teams, city flags, T-shirts, lanyards and tickets for the EHF FINAL4 2011 weekend.

The 54 articles sold produced over € 2500 that will go to the EHF FINAL4 social partner, Deutsche Krebshilfe, the German cancer charity, which continues the battle against this disease, funding research into the treatment as well as the care of cancer patients.

Unsurprisingly, most bids were placed on the signed shirts. Chekhovskie Medvedi’s Alexey Kamanin shirt went for € 138, Ciudad Real's Luc Abalo’s jersey brought in € 167, Barcelona’s Daniel Sarmiento Melian sold for € 179, and the shirt from the EHF Champions League Top Scorer – Filip Jicha from THW Kiel – made € 211.

Furthermore, handball fans managed to snatch two regular and two VIP tickets for the 2011 EHF FINAL4, which will take place in Cologne once again.

"The auction underlines the popularity this first EHF FINAL4 weekend has created. We are proud to be able to further contribute to Deutsche Krebshilfe and to support their research in finding a cure," said JJ Rowland, EHF FINAL4 manager.
