Handball masters met in Spain

The Spanish city Berga hosted the 6th edition of the European Masters Championship over the weekend. The competition was organised in five different categories for men and women.

Tragic loss of veteran handballer

The passing away of Hans Wienbeck (68-year-old player of ZTR/UKR) on 18 June 2010, on the opening day of the competition, came as a shock for all players and organisers of the event as well as for the European Handball Federation. Despite all efforts of the paramedic crew and the doctors of the local hospital, the life of the sportsman, who suffered a cardiac arrest in the locker room, could not be saved.

The European Handball Federation expresses its most sincere condolences to the friends and family of the player. At the same time, the EHF thanks the organisers of the event and the city of Berga for their utmost support in the very difficult period following this tragic event.
