EHF supports development of Street Handball

A new game was born in Denmark: Street Handball. The simple and easily accessible game for kids is a highly effective way of attracting the youngest generation to handball. Street Handball, played without physical impact and with a special soft leather ball, is an ideal tool to teach the basic techniques of the indoor game and entertain the little ones at the same time.

Lasse Boesen is one of the creators of Street HandballThe special soft ball is very easy to control and the game therefore can take place across age, level and gender with focus on communication, respect, equality and fair play.

The game was developed as a joint initiative of the Danish Handball Federation and handball professionals, including SG Flensburg-Handewitt top player Lasse Boesen as well as product development experts and handball coaches Ole Bruun Andersen and Torben Sorensen.

The game Street Handball was presented to an international group of handball experts attending the Women’s Competitions Conference on 6 June in Odense, Denmark. The participants of the conference were impressed by the demonstration and welcomed the basic principles of Street Handball as well as the soft leather ball.

The Executive Committee also dealt with the matter at its recent meeting on 11 June. The leadership of the EHF decided to contribute to the further development of Street Handball and elevate it to a European-wide project.

The EHF has initiated cooperation with the Danish Handball Federation and the game will be presented to all EHF Member Federations during the EHF Congress in Copenhagen on 24/25 September 2010.
