2012 EHF EURO Qualification Groups

The Qualification for the Men’s EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia is carried out in two phases. Based on the EHF National Team Ranking, 12 teams played out the remaining three places for the Qualification Groups in Phase 1. The three tournaments were played in Great Britain, Georgia and Luxembourg this weekend.

Group A winner: Estonia

In London Group A saw Estonia dominate and win. Three straight victories over Bulgaria, host nation Great Britain and Cyprus puts them through to EHF EURO Qualification Group 1. Estonia will now meet Hungary, FYR Macedonia and Bosnia Hercegovina.

Group B winner: Latvia

Georgia could not take advantage of playing at home. In Tbilisi’s Group B very close results ended in favour of Latvia. Same as group opponents Finland and Italy they had four points at the end, so a separate table between these three only had to decide. Due to one more goal scored Latvia won the group and put Finland in runners-up position. The Latvians are now the fourth team in EHF EURO Qualification Group 5 with Germany, Iceland and Austria.

Group C winner: Israel

With a victory over Turkey in the opening game in Luxembourg’s Centre sportif National d'Coque, Israel jumped the biggest hurdle. After two more victories over host nation Luxembourg and Belgium the Israelis are now in EHF EURO Qualification Group 1 and meet Sweden, Slovakia and Montenegro.

The Qualification for the final tournament will be carried out in 7 groups of 4 teams each. The teams will play a total of 6 matches with a home and an away match against each of the other teams in their group. The teams ranked 1st and 2nd of each group will qualify for the EHF EURO 2012.
