Kiel’s Champions League winner was voted Germany’s Best Player.
Next decoration for Jicha
With a vast majority of the votes of all managers and directors of the Bundesliga clubs, Filip Jicha was awarded Best Player of the Bundesliga season.
The THW Kiel shooter who won his first EHF Champions League title last Sunday won clearly ahead of the two other EHF Champions League participants Hans Lindbergh (HSV Hamburg) and Uwe Gensheimer (Rhein Neckar Löwen).
Jicha was also this season’s Top Scorer of the EHF Champions League with 119 goals, he was awarded Most Valuable Player of the EURO in Austria, where he was the top scorer, too.
Jicha has been playing for THW since 2007, after transferring from TBV Lemgo. The Czech Republic international is the fourth player of THW in a row to become “Best Bundesliga Player of the season” after Nikola Karabatic (2007, 2008) and Thierry Omeyer (2009).
A content Jicha commented: “I’m glad not to be a Bundesliga manager, as this voting is very hard. We have 20 to 25 top players in the Bundesliga, who all could have become number one. Every team has at least one world class player, so it’s a great honour for me.”
On Saturday Jicha hopes to become German Champion for the third consecutive time (for THW it would be the sixth time in a row and title number 16 in total) and on Sunday he will present the new EHF Champions League trophy at the German All-star Game in Berlin, where the best Bundesliga players meet the German national team.
