Lion for a lifetime

After signing EHF Champions League winner Börge Lund from THW Kiel, wing player Ivan Cupic from Velenje and Swiss play maker Andy Schmid from Silkeborg, the Rhein Neckar Löwen also extended the contract of local hero: Uwe Gensheimer, who plays for the club of his home town Mannheim since 2003, will stay at the Löwen until 2014. The former contract was valid until 2012, but both sides wanted to set a sign for the future.

“Everything’s perfect in this club and we belong to the German and European top clubs. And we’re going to play for titles in future,” Gensheimer explained his decision.

“Fans can identify with Uwe. We’re proud to keep him at the Löwen,” manager Thorsten Storm said.

“He’s a winner’s type and showed  a strong performance on highest level over the whole season,” coach Ola Lindgren added about the right wing player, who was part of the German team at the EURO 2010 in Austria.

Additionally the German club signed the Serbian international Zarko Sesum from their EHF Champions League opponent MKB Veszprém. Sesum will join the club in 2011 and has signed a contract valid until 2014.

“He’s young and hungry for success, and he’s one of the best attack players in the whole EHF Champions League,” Storm praised his new player.

“It was a very easy decision for me, as it’s a dream to play for the Löwen in the SAP Arena,” Sesum commented.
