Hungarians beat Leipzig clearly, but remain second in the final ranking.
Easy work for Györ
Group I:
Audi ETO Györ – HC Leipzig 30:19 (13:7)
After Larvik had beaten Krim the day before it was clear that Györ couldn’t win the group anymore. But the Hungarians were motivated enough to secure their fourth victory in the Main Round. Györ now will meet Valcea in the semis, as for Leipzig the international season is over after six defeats in six Main Round matches.
Györ started furious and led 7:2, before Leipzig woke up and improved a little. But as the Germans missed too many chances and couldn’t stop Aurelia Bradeanu, Györ secured a quite comfortable lead. The 12:7 in minute 29 was the seventh individual goal of Bradeanu, at the break the distance was already six goals (13:7 for Györ), only six minutes later the gap was eight goals (18:10) and ten goals in the middle of the second half (22:12) for the first time. The Germans gave themselves up, were too harmless in attack, as nearly every shot of Györ went inside the goal. Only in the last ten minutes Leipzig fought again, but the match had been decided long before – for the Germans it was the clearest defeat in this season. Györ can build upon this performance for the semis against Valcea, in which they have the home right in the first leg. Top scorers were Bradeanu (Györ/10) and Wiren (Leipzig/7).
