Another injury hits Viborg

Defending Women’s Champions League winners Viborg HK, who have been hit particularly hard by injuries and pregnancy this season; have been hit by further bad luck. Playmaker and defender Johanna Ahlm picked up a knee injury in the Champions League main round match away against Hypo Niederösterreich and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

The 22 year old Swedish international accidentally twisted her knee and damaged the ligament on the inside of the knee. At first, the club feared that she had torn her front cruciade ligament, which would have meant a break of up to a year. Closer examinations showed that the injury was not that bad after all. However, the expected break of between six and eight weeks will mean that her season is almost over.

Johanna Ahlm joined Viborg on loan from Danish league colleagues Aalborg DH in the early autumn of this season, and was just beginning to get settled in her new team, when the accident occurred.

Annoyed coach

Quite naturally, Viborg’s head coach Jakob Vestergaard was annoyed by this new injury that has hit his team.

"I am sorry that we are going to be without Johanna at this important stage of the season, as I felt that our squad was quite shrunk already before she got injured. However, we will fight with the players who are fit. Of course I am happy that Johanna got away better than we feared in the first place," Jakob Vestergaard said, as the extent of the injury was known.

Apart from Ahlm, Viborg are currently missing pivot Anja Althaus and left winger Gitte Aaen, due to injuries, while Louise Bager Due, Lene Lund Høy Karlsen and Grit Jurack are all out, due to pregnancy or recent childbirth. Furthermore, backcourt player Gorica Acimovic is bothered by shoulder problems, but is still playing.
