Big step for Valcea

Everything’s well prepared for the top duel of the next weekend in women’s Champions League: After Viborg had beaten Hypo very clearly on Saturday, Oltchim Valcea didn’t have problems in beating Volgograd 30:24. The Danes and the Romanians have the optimum of four points after two match days in Main Round group 2, like Larvik in group 1. Like Hypo in their group, Volgograd still wait for their first point.

Group 2:

Oltchim Valcea – Dinamo Volgograd 30:24 (16:9)

Oltchim Valcea made an important step to the semifinals by defeating Volgograd, celebrated by an again sold out arena. The first ten minutes of the game were absolutely equal, but from minute 15 on, Valcea extended their lead goal by goal thanks to the saves of goalkepper Paula Ungureanu– at the break the distance was seven. Even as the Russian champion came closer to 16:12, they couldn’t stop the Romanians. Thanks to their best period Valcea again went away to seven goals, specially as Christina Neague played an outstanding second half. After minute 40 the resistance of Volgograd was broken. Dinamo coach ViktorRyabyk spoke of a deserved victory for Valcea:“Oltchim is a good team, which will have good chances to win at Hypo. My team showeda good moral. We still have four games left and anything can happen.” Valcea coach Radu Voina’s already looking ahead: “There’s a long way to the final, but I hope that we will play better and better and reach our goal. Now we won two matches and I’m proud of the team.” Top scorers were Vizitiu, Stancaand Neagu with each five goals for the host and Levina with six goals for Volgograd.
