Pivot leaves champions

However, there is one of the players, whose contracts are expiring after this season, whom the club has not managed to hold on to: Line player René Toft Hansen.

The 25 year old line player and defence specialist, who was reserve for the Danish squad for the EURO2010 in Austria last month, is going to continue his career at the new club AG København which will be formed next season out of the current AG Håndbold and FCK Håndbold.

“I need some new challenges, when it comes to continuing my personal development. A development which will hopefully enable me to live out my ambitions on a club level as well as on a national team level,” René Toft Hansen said.

“AG are going to create the most professional environment for a handball team in Denmark so far, and I am looking forward to being part of that,” Toft Hansen, who has been with Kolding for three years, added.

Comes from a winning culture

“René fits perfectly into our strategy. He is Danish, he has his best years still to come, and he is a very solid player in the attack as well as in the defence already. Furthermore, he comes from a winning culture in Kolding, which we see as an extra advantage,” said AG København coach, former Danish international Klavs Bruun Jørgensen.

AG København have already signed stars such as goalkeeper Kasper Hvidt from FCK Håndbold as well as playmaker Joachim Boldsen and left back Mikkel Hansen from FC Barcelona, while a further top player, Lars Jørgensen already plays in AG Håndbold.

In Kolding, René Toft Hansen is currently the only pivot, as Bosnian international Muhamed Toromanovic is out for the rest of this season – and maybe parts of the next – with a torn cruciade ligament, for which he was operated recently.

Kolding have not yet announced, how the plan to solve the problem on the line in future.
