Developments in the case of the 2006/07 EHF CL Final – EHF statement

The European Handball Federation is closely following the case of an alleged manipulation attempt in connection with the 2006/07 EHF Champions League Final between THW Kiel and SG Flensburg-Handewitt.

In press statements on 30/31 January 2010, the responsible court in Germany, Regional Court of Kiel (Landgericht Kiel), published information on the accusation of Uwe Schwenker and Nokia Serdarusic. With reference to these publications, the EHF was contacted by a number of media representatives over the past days and therefore provides a statement as follows:

On 2 February 2010, immediately as the information on the new development in the case was published and the EHF EURO 2010 came to an end, the EHF contacted the state prosecutor with regards to the actual documents available.

The EHF will carefully consider all material upon receipt and decide afterwards on all internal and external legal measures.

Already in the spring of last year, the EHF initiated an internal examination of the case in order to meet the necessary deadlines with all actions. Since then, the EHF followed in detail all procedural steps of the public proceedings at the court in Kiel. Meanwhile, the EHF proceedings were adjourned until all relevant investigations and legal proceedings are completed by the public authorities.

At certain intervals, the EHF gained insight to the respective new files of the public court in order to keep an overview of the status and progress of the matter. This approach will be followed in order to be able to react with immediate measures to any new circumstance.

As underlined in previous EHF statements on the matter, a full clarification of all circumstances of the 2006/07 EHF Champions League Final remains to be treated as an integral interest of the European Handball Federation.
