Danish champions lose their pivot for up to a year
Danish champions KIF Kolding, currently in fourth position in Champions League Group D, will have to play without pivot Muhamed Toromanović not only for the rest of this season but even for a part of next season, too.
The 25 year old Bosnian international got his knee twisted in a recent world championship qualification match against Romania.
Scans have shown that his front cruciate ligament has been torn, along with other injuries in the knee. This will mean surgery and a break of nine to twelve months for Toromanović, who has played for Kolding since joining from Bosnian champions RK Bosna Sarajevo in the summer of 2008.
"Right now we mainly feel pity for ‘Tore’. But of course, we also feel frustrated on behalf of the club and the team, as his injury leaves an enormous gap. He may not have been in our starting line-up, but still he has played a lot and meant much to our defence as well as to our attack," Kolding coach Flemming Pedersen told the local newspaper Jydske Vestkysten.
Kolding have a further line player, René Toft Hansen who was substitute for the Danish squad at the recent EHF EURO 2010. But his contract is expiring at the end of this season, and it is still unknown whether he is going to stay at the club.
