Qualification Europe - Play-off matches
Procedure for the draw of the play-off matches

 

Date: 31 January 2010
Time: 13:00 hrs.
Venue: Press Centre/Stadthalle/Vienna
Total entries in qualification Europe: 39 teams
Teams at final tournament in SWE: 24 teams
Places Europe at final tournament: 14 teams
Qualified for final tournament: 5 teams (France, defending champion, Sweden, organiser, and three best ranked teams of EHF EURO 2010, Croatia, Iceland, Poland)

Qualified for play-offs (18 teams)

1. Qualified from the 2010 EHF EURO AUT:
11 teams from the 16 participating teams will qualify for the play-off matches

2. Qualified through qualification groups in January 2010:
7 winners of the qualification groups which qualified for the play-off matches

DRAW

8 Teams in pot 1:
AUT, CZE, DEN, ESP, GER, NOR, RUS, SLO
(8 best ranked teams of the 2010 EHF EURO AUT which are not qualified directly for the final tournament in SWE)

3 Teams in pot 2:
HUN, SRB, UKR (teams ranked 13 to 16 at EHF EURO 2010 except SWE qualified as organiser)

7 Teams in pot 3:
GRE, LTU, NED, POR, ROU, SUI, SVK (7 winners of the qualification groups)

Procedure

Step 1:
1 ball of pot 2 is drawn to pot 1 and two balls of pot 2 are drawn to pot 3(the balls will not be opened).

Step 2:
One team of pot 1 is drawn against one team of pot 3 (9 times).
(For each pairing the home and away right will be drawn)

Playing dates for the play-off matches:

First leg:12/13 June 2010
Second leg:19/20 June 2010

The winners of the play-off matches will qualify for the 2011 Men’s World Championship in Sweden (IHF event) from 13 to 30 January 2011.
