EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia

Procedure for the draw of the qualification matches Phase 1

Date: 31 January 2010
Time: 13:00 hrs. (local time)
Venue: Press Centre/Stadthalle Vienna
Total entries: 39 teams (incl. organiser Serbia)
Teams at final tournament in Serbia: 16 teams
Places available at final tournament: 14 teams
Qualified for final tournament: 2 teams - Serbia (organiser) and defending champion of EHF EURO 2010

Qualified for qualification Phase 2

Qualified from the EHF EURO 2010:
14 participating teams are directly qualified for the qualification matches Phase 2 .

Qualified through World Championship qualification groups in January 2010:
7 winners of the World Championship qualification groups which qualified for the play-off matches are directly qualified for the qualification matches Phase 2 (Greece, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Switzerland and Slivekia)

An additional direct qualification place was given to the four best teams of the EHF National Team Ranking list valid for the EHF EURO 2012 Qualification in Serbia. These for teams are directly qualified for the qualification matches Phase 2: FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Belarus and Bosnia Hercegovina

Qualification Phase 1

The 12 teams are seeded based on the EHF National Team Ranking valid for the 2012 EHF EURO Qualification: Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Georgia, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg and Turkey.

Phase 1 will be played in 3 groups of 4 teams. The winner of each group will qualify for Phase 2 of the EHF EURO 2012 Qualification.

3 Teams in pot 1: LAT, ISR, EST
3 Teams in pot 2: ITA + 2 teams from BEL, BUL, CYP (equal ranking)
3 Teams in pot 3: FIN, TUR + 1 team from BEL, BUL, CYP (equal ranking)
3 Teams in pot 4: LUX, GEO, GBR

Procedure:

Step 1:
2 teams from BEL, BUL, CYP are drawn to pot 2.
The remaining team goes to pot 3 (the balls will not be opened)
