A special day for Frafjord

For Byåsen pivot Marit Malm Frafjord the Champions League match away against Viborg HK on Saturday – which Byåsen lost 29-22 - was a quite peculiar experience, as she was playing against her future club. As eurohandball.com has reported before, the 24 year old Norwegian international has singed a three year contract with the reigning Champions League winners, valid from next season.
Eurohandball.com talked to Marit Malm Frafjord about the present and the future.

Eurohandball.com: What was it like for you to play against your future team and on your coming home ground?

Marit Malm Frafjord: It was a bit like any other match, and while I was on the court I did not think much about the fact that I was playing against my future club. However, I found the atmosphere in the hall great, and I am really looking forward to playing there.

Eurohandball.com: What do you think of your future team, Viborg?

Marit Malm Frafjord: It is a team in the absolute top of the world – with extremely skilled players in all positions. They are great individualists, but also great as a team. That is probably the reason, while they are in the top of the world’s strongest league.

Eurohandball.com: What can you contribute to the Viborg team?

Marit Malm Frafjord: I think I can mainly add something in the defence. Furthermore, the fact that I am not that old yet will mean that I can develop a lot, when I get the chance to train and play with players at this level. This will mean that I can also improve other aspects of my game. However, I am a Byåsen player for the rest of this season, and that is what I choose to focus on right now.

Eurohandball.com: Speaking of your current team, you will have to win in Leipzig in the coming weekend in order to maintain your chance to go on in the Champions League. How do you see your chance to reach that goal?

Marit Malm Frafjord: I think we have a rather good chance, if we can repeat our generally good defensive performance from the match in Viborg and maybe improve a bit in our attacking game. We have a week to train and prepare for the match in Leipzig, and I am sure it will do us good.
