ECA confirms Metalurg decision

The EHF Court of Arbitration has dealt with the case of HC Metalurg. The FYR Macedonian club was fined €4,000 by the EHF Arbitration Tribunal in July 2009 for inadequate protection of EHF referees during an official competition match. The game in question was a 2008/2009 Men’s EHF Champions League group match between HC Metalurg and FC Barcelona that took place in Skopje, FYR Macedonia, on 8 November 2008.

The EHF Arbitration Tribunal had found that the host club, HC Metalurg, was clearly negligent in its duty to protect the EHF referees as an unknown person managed to enter the changing room of the EHF referees and made an improper offer during the half-time break of the aforementioned match organised by HC Metalurg.

Following the decision, HC Metalurg filed a claim to the EHF Court of Arbitration (ECA), which is the last instance in the arbitration system of the EHF.

The ECA chamber examined the case of HC Metalurg again and made the final decision confirming the punishment imposed by the EHF Arbitration Tribunal. Accordingly, HC Metalurg shall pay €4,000 for inadequate protection of EHF referees.
