Challenge Cup team suspended

The EHF Body of First Instance has dealt with the case of the Croatian team RK Siscia after the Men’s Challenge Cup Round 3 game between HC ”Motor ZNTU-ZAS”/ UKR and RK Siscia/ CRO was cancelled.

RK Siscia informed the EHF on Friday afternoon that “handball club Siscia is not able to travel to the 3rd round of Challenge Cup, because five players have flu symptoms.” By this time the team should already have arrived at the venue of the match.

The club took this decision without any prior information to the EHF. Therefore the handling of this matter by the club is regarded as withdrawal from the competition. The case was dealt with according to the 2009/10 European Cup Regulations.

The club of RK Siscia has to pay €10,000 fine and will be suspended from taking part in the European Cup competitions for the next two seasons. The 2nd leg match (scheduled for 21 November 2009 in Sisak) is cancelled and the club HC Motor ZNTU-ZAS is qualified for the Last 16 of the 2009/10 Men’s Challenge Cup.

Right to appeal
