Ciudad remain spotless
Veszprem and Kielce in group B, and Ciudad and Hamburg in group C are the big winners of the Saturday’s matches. Kolding surprised again with a draw in Leon.
Group B:
MKB Veszprem –Bosna Gas Sarajewo 35:18 (22:7)
At „halftime“ of group B, Veszprem took the lead again. Thanks to the clear victory against Bosna, the Hungarians have the better goal difference right now competed with the Löwen. The Bosnians remain last in their group with only two points after five matches. The victory of Veszprem was a matter of team play, Bosna didn’t have a slice of a chance. Sulic (7 goals for Veszprem) and Doborac (4 goals for Bosna) were the topscorers. After 17 minutes the match was decided, as Veszprem were in lead 14:4, until the break the distance were 15 goals. After the 30:14, Veszprem coach Lajos Mocsai changed his team completely, as it was totally obvious that the Hungarians will take an easy and clear victory, attended by a full Arena in Veszprem. For Bosna it was the fourth consecutive defeat in CL – and Veszprem has best chances like Löwen and Kielce to go for the round of the last 16.
Vive Targi Kielce – Chambery Savoie 31:22 (14:12)
With only one point behind Veszprem and Löwen, the Polish champion is the big surprise in group B. Supported by 4000 spectators, Kielce took their third home victory in the third match, again with a clear result. After their third defeat, Chambery is ranked fourth with only three points. Despite the final result, Chambery started well and led 11:10, before Kielce improved. Thanks to the great performance of Mariusz Jurasik the host was leading 14:12 at halftime and extended this lead in between seven minutes to 21:14. Afterwards Chambery couldn’t come closer anymore. For Kielce goalkeeper Marcus Cleverly it was a “good day for our club. Our defenceplayed very good, so it was easier to played in the goal.” Chambery coach Philippe Gardent praised Kielce: “They are very strong, but I hope next week we'll play better and the score will be different.” Jurasik was Kielce’s topscorer with seven goals, Joli scored five times for Chambery.
Group C:
Alingsas HK – Ciudad Real 24:26 (10:14)
Current titleholder Ciudad didn’t do more than they have to win their fifth consecutive match in this season and is going straight to the main round. After winning their first ever points in Fyllingen last matchday, Alingsas was highly motivated and played a very strong match against the big favourite, even as Ciudad was leading throughout the whole 60 minutes. The four goal difference from the halftime break lasted until the final stage of the match, before the Swedish champion came closer a little bit. Topscorers were Enström and Bliznac with each seven goals for Alingsas and Aginagalde with six goals for Ciudad Real.
Fyllingen Handball - HSV Hamburg 17:48 (10:25)
The highest ever victory in Champions League was he 25th victory for HSV in their CL history – and now the Germans have best chances with now eight points to go on to the next stage of the competition. Hans Lindberg scored eight goals for the Germans that paved the way to victory very early, Gjeitrem scored six times for Fyllingen – the team’s still waiting for their first CL point in this season. After the 5:4 HSV scored ten goals in a row, was leading with an eleven goal difference at halftime and extended this gap to 36:14 in minute 42. The distance of 30 goals was reached in minute 56 (45:15) for the first time. “We played well for 60 minutes, and Fyllingen lacks experience for matches on high level”, HSV coach Martin Schwalb said. “We expected a much more difficult match”, sportive director Christian Fitzek added.
Group D:
Ademar Leon – KIF Kolding 30:30 (18:15)
Group D seems to be pre decided at the half of the matches, as Kiel, Barcelona, Kolding and Leon are nearly through to the last 16 round. By the draw in Spain,the Danish champions remains ahead of Leon with one point (6 to 5). Both teams still fight for the third place in their group. Ademar was clearly the better team until the final stage of the match, thanks to a great performance of goalkeeper Mirko Allilovic. The Spaniards were leading 10:6 after eleven minutes and kept this lead until the break (18:15) and minute 46 (26:22), before Kolding came closer goal by goal and tied for the second consecutive time against a favourite team after the draw on home soil against Kiel. Costa scored nine goals for Ademar, Karlsson seven for Kolding.
