Marit Malm Frafjord will arrive from Byasen next season.
Norwegian star will join Viborg
Viborg HK signed another star for their team: Marit Malm Frafjord will join the ambitious Danes. The Norwegian international arrives from Byåsen HE on a three year contract valid from the start of next season.
“It will be interesting, definitely a challenge for me. The Danish league is considerably stronger than the Norwegian and Viborg are in the absolute elite of Europe. I expect them to stay on top in the future as well. I’m looking forward to joining some of the best players in Europe. That will help me improve as a handball player,” the 22-year old line player said. She will play the rest of the season for Byåsen.
“Of course it was special for me to play against Viborg in the first round, but right now I’m still the player of Byåsen. I focus on my current squad,” Frafjord added.
“Marti is a very clever line player. She is extremely good at opening the way for the others and she is one of the absolutely best defenders in the world. So it is obvious that we have some great expectations from her,” Viborg´s head coach Jakob Vestergaard said.
One has to go
Viborg have two pivots of international high level already. German Anja Althaus is playing her third season for the Danes and Lene Lund Høy Karlsen (aka Lene Lund Nielsen) arrived five year ago. One of them will leave the club at the end of the season, but Viborg director Peter Cassøe does not want to comment on this.
“It is obvious that we will not keep three world class pivots in our squad, but we are not ready to announce which of them will leave us. We are negotiating terms at the moment,” he only said.
Marii Malm Frafjord will meet Viborg on 9 January again in the Champions League.
