Key player of Spanish runner-up Balonmano Parc Sagunt is optimistic about the CL qualification tournament in Aalborg.
Milica Danilović: “We are favourites!“
Despite financial problems in recent years (the general sponsor left the club), the team of Cristina Mayo concluded last season with two important achievements - Spanish league Cup (Copa ABF) trophy and second place in Spanish Championship.
One of the main reasons for these good results is Milica Danilović – German international of Serbian origins. 34-year old arrived in Sagunto in 2007 from Bundesliga where she played in Lützelinden, Leipzig and Oldenburg.
Left back compares Spanish and German clubs:
“Bundesliga has more teams on pretty equal level. Only Leipzig stands up with their quality, organisation and especially with their fans. In Spanish Championship there are four or five strong teams and Spaniards play much faster handball.“
Lot of important players left Sagunto in the end of last season (goalkeeper Eli Lopez retired, middle back Macarena Aguilar joined Itxako...). But with great efforts of President Jose Ramon Gasco and Coach Cristina Mayo team is strengthened with quality reinforcements:
“Five players left and five players came. It is true we miss Macarena Aguilar on middle back position, but I don't think that we are any weaker comparing to last season,“ said Danilović.
Over the weekend Balonmano Parc Sagunto will play in Group 4 of CL qualifications together with Milli Piyango, Patras and Aalborg. Winner will join Hypo, Krim and Metz in group B of CL. Danilović is convinced it will be Sagunto:
“I am an optimistic person and I see my team favourites at the CL qualification tournament in Aalborg. The schedule is good and we have a great chance to qualify for the Champions League.“
