Bad injury for Aalborg goalkeeper
Aalborg DH keeper Madeleine Gustafsson´s back injury, which eurohandball.com reported about earlier, turned out to be even worse than feared.
Madeleine Gustafsson - her last name was Grundström before marrying Swedish handballer Mathias Gustafsson – picked up the injury at a World Championship play-off match for Sweden back in June, and medical examinations have now shown that the injury is so serious that Madeleine Gustafsson will not be fit to play handball against until the spring of 2010.
“Madeleine was a great asset to us last season, when we surprisingly took the silver medals in the Danish championship,” Aalborg DH´s managing director Jan Hansen said.
“Right now I'm in such pain that I cannot even think about handball. I simply concentrate on solving my daily life,” Madeleine Gustafsson said.
French replacement
Aalborg DH, who are in Group 4 of the second qualification round for the Champions League group stage, also have Montenegrin keeper Ana Vojcic in their squad along with the young keeper talent Søs Søby.
However, this is not enough for the club who has strong hopes to qualify for the group stage through the qualification group they are hosting themselves in the first weekend of October. Therefore, the club has sought and found a stand-in for Gustafsson.
The new goalkeeper will be the French keeper Aurelie Rouquette who has signed a one year contract with Aalborg after a three day trial stay in the club.
“She knows Danish handball and speaks a little Danish, so she appears to be a fine replacement for Madeleine”, director Jan Hansen said.
Arelie Rouquette has played a season for another Danish club, Viborg HK, before.
