2009 Women’s 17 European Championship

The Women’s 17 European Championship, currently taking place in Vrnjacka Banja and Nis, Serbia, is nearing the final weekend. The main / intermediate round came to an end yesterday.

On 3 July the cross matches for the places 5 to 8 followed by the semi-finals DEN v NOR and FRA v RUS will be played in Nis(beginning at 12:30 hrs.). Parallel to these, the cross matches for places 9 to 16 will take place in Vrnjacka Banja.

The placement matches for positions 9 to 16 are scheduled for 4 July 2009 in Vrnjacka Banja. The 2009 Women’s 17 European Championship will come to a climax in Nis on Sunday, 5 July 2009, starting at 10:00 hrs. with the placement match for position 7/8, following on with the match for place 5/6 at 12:30 hrs. At 15:00 hrs. the bronze medal game will be played followed by crowning the European Champion in the final. The throw-off for the final will be at 17:30 hrs. Afterwards the medal ceremony will take place.

Places 5 to 8: Hungary, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden
Places 9 to 12: Croatia, Germany, Romania, Serbia
Places 13 to 16: Czech Republic, FYR Macedonia, Lithuania, Slovakia

The top eight ranked teams will proceed to the subsequent Women’s U18 World Championship scheduled to take place in the Dominican Republic from 28 July to 8 August 2010 (IHF Event). In addition, the two top ranked teams will also directly qualify for the Women’s 19 European Championship taking place in the Netherlands from 4 to 14 August 2011. The winner will directly qualify for the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore to be held between the 14th to 26th August 2010.
