Arbitration Tribunal Coordination Meeting

The members of the EHF Arbitration Tribunal convened on Saturday 16 May 2009 in Vienna. The objective of the meeting was to present the eight cases of alleged manipulation attempts and jointly define the necessary further procedures.

In the period preceding the Coordination Meeting, detailed reports, statements and documentation have been collected on all the cases concerned. Based on the available information, the Arbitration Tribunal members came to a decision whether to dismiss the case, continue with the inquiries or to put the case to a decision making phase.

According to the joint decisions of the Arbitration Tribunal members, further inquiries are necessary in two cases and also in another case to clarify certain details.

  • 2005/2006 Women’s Champions League, group matches
    Lada Togliatti (RUS) vs Slagelse (DEN) on 21 January 2006
    • the case of the club Lada Togliatti forwarded to a decision making phase

  • 2005/06 Men’s Cup Winner’s Cup Final, 2nd leg
    Chehovski Medvedi (RUS) vs CBM Valladolid (ESP) on April 29, 2006
    • the case of the club Medvedi forwarded to a decision making phase
    • the case of the match referees regarding the violation of the duty of reporting forwarded to a decision making phase
    • inquiries to be continued regarding other persons involved

  • 2006/2007 Women’s Champions League quarterfinal, 2nd leg
    Lada Togliatti (RUS) vs Viborg (DEN) on 25 March 2007
    • the case of a person seeking contact to the referees forwarded to a decision making phase

  • 2007/2008 Women’s Champions League Final, 1st leg
    Zvezda Zvenigorod (RUS) vs Hypo Niederösterreich (AUT) on 17 May 2008
    • inquiries to be continued

  • 2009 World Championship qualification play-off match, 2nd leg
    Romania vs Montenegro on 14 June 2008
    • the case of the Romanian Handball Federation and the officials involved of the Romanian Handball Federation forwarded to a decision making phase

  • 2008/09 Men’s Champions League group match
    Metalurg Skopje (MKD) vs FC Barcelona (ESP) on 08 November 2008
    • the case of Metalurg Skopje forwarded to a decision making phase

  • 2006/2007 Men’s Champions League Final, 2nd leg
    THW Kiel vs Flensburg on 29 April 2007 in Kiel
    • inquiries to be continued regarding the conduct of the club THW Kiel
    • the inquiry panel will analyse the documents received on 15 May 2009 from the Public Prosecutor in Kiel

  • 2008/09 Women’s Challenge Cup semi-final, 2nd leg
    Izmir BSB Sk (TUR) and Thüringer HC (GER) on 19 April 2009 in Izmir
    • decision to be expected within short time

The three-member decision panels for the respective cases will be defined by Rui Coelho, President of the Arbitration Tribunal, in the upcoming days.
