2009 Women’s 19 European Championship

Together with the Women’s European Cup Final Draw, the Final Tournament Draw for the 2009 Women’s 19 European Championship was carried out in the EHF HQ, Vienna today.

The 16 teams taking part in the event were divided into four groups for the preliminary round. The Final Tournament will take place in Hungary (Györ, Papa, Szombathely) on 14-23 August 2009.

The substitute nations are:

No. 1: Czech Republic (finished 2nd in qualification group 6)
No. 2: FYR Macedonia (finished 2nd in qualification group 7)
No. 3: Croatia (finished 2nd in qualification group 8)

The Women’s 19 European Championship will start on 14 August 2009. The preliminary round phase will come to a conclusion on 16 August 2009. The two top teams from each group will qualify for the main round (places 1 - 8), while the third and fourth placed teams meet in the intermediate round (places 9 -16) to be played on 18 and 19 August 2009.

After the conclusion of these two rounds, cross matches, placement matches, semi-finals and the final will be played between 20-23 August 2009.

After the draw, EHF Secretary General, Michael Wiederer, and Hungarian Handball Federation Secretary General, László Sinka, signed the W19 European Championship Contract (see photo).
