Complaint reported by media

The European Handball Federation has been informed, via the media, that the organisation Group Club Handball has lodged a complaint to the European Union against the European and the International Handball Federations in order to take legal steps.

The EHF did not receive any official information about such activities so far from the General Manager of Group Club Handball, who is quoted by the media in this matter.

It came as a surprise for the leadership of the EHF to learn about statements published by the organisation that do not mirror the relationship between the EHF and the representatives of the European top clubs. These clubs are vital part of the activities carried out by EHF and EHF Marketing on all levels.

However, as no details are known by the European Handball Federation about the document mentioned in the press reports so far, the EHF cannot comment on it in detail. After careful consideration of legal and sports political aspects, the EHF will disclose the necessary steps taken in the matter in due course.

At the same time, the EHF and EHF Marketing will continue the work on the further development of the flagship club competition, EHF Champions League, together with the top clubs and their representatives actively involved in the various EHF bodies. This is done independently from any threats by individuals, in the interest of the general development of handball.

The progress in the past three years and the increasing public interest towards the Champions League prove that the format of the top level European club competition has undergone a successful development phase and it has a great potential to continue this path in the future.
