EHF conducts research

The last weeks saw allegations surface in the international media about match manipulation attempts in EHF competitions.

The European Handball Federation has made it clear that it intends to take up these cases with extreme seriousness. With numerous allegations of misconduct currently gathering momentum, the EHF is committed to intensely investigating these claims and tracing them to their original source.

The EHF sees the need for urgent treatment of the matter on various levels, in particular:

• clarification of actual cases,
• analysis of the situation through collection of all relevant information,
• decisions and implementation of structural measures.

In order to get a clear picture of the subject, the European Handball Federation has requested all EHF referees and delegates to complete a survey with focus on the past four seasons (2005/06 – 2008/09). As many as 300 EHF referees and 150 delegates active in this period received a questionnaire on Tuesday, 17 March with questions related to their personal experiences.

The information gained from the EHF referees and delegates can help form the basis on which the EHF can confront and challenge the attempts of undue influence.

The EHF has assured open communication on the matter and will inform on subsequent measures or decisions.
